New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York, the state is often regionalized into upstate and downstate. Mayfield is a town in Fulton County, New York, United States. The town of Mayfield contains a village also called Mayfield, its population is 800. Mayfield is within the Adirondack state park on the southwest shore of great Sacandaga lake. According to the census bureau, the town has a total area of 167.5 square kilometers out of which 151.3 square kilometers is land and 16.2 square kilometers is water and there were 6,432 people, 2,535 households and 1,804 families residing in the town. The population density was 42.5 per square kilometers with 3,211 housing units at an average density of 21.2 per square kilometers.
 
The per capita income for the town was 17,972 dollars where 2,535 were households. In the Mayfield town the population was spread out with 25.2 percent under the age of 18 years, 6.4 percent from 18 to 24, 28.2 percent from 25 to 44, 26.1 percent from 45 to 64 and 14.1 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 95.6 males.
 
The communities and locations in Mayfield are Broadalbin junction, a hamlet by the west town line, Cranberry creek, a hamlet in the northeast part of the town, Dennies Hollow, a hamlet north of Mayfield village. Mayfield, the village of Mayfield is in the eastern part of the town. Red Bunch corners, a hamlet in the south part of the town and Riceville, a hamlet by the junction of routes 30 and 30A. Its landmarks are Rice Homestead, a 1790 historical colonial home or museum and Alvord Leather, former leather shop memorable for the giant male statue and unique architecture.
