New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Granville is a town in Washington County, New York, United States. It is part of the Glens Falls, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 6,456 at the 2000 census. The Town of Granville is on the eastern border of the county. Granville is also the name of a village in the town.
 
The town was founded in 1780. The St. Francis Indians claimed their ancestral rights to hunt, fish and trade in Granville, finding there their best beavers. Today Granville, lying in the northeastern portion of the county at the confluence of the Mettawee and Indian Rivers, is still a very desirable area. The town is fortunate in having rich farmland where several modern agricultural plants aid in making Washington County one of the leading dairy counties in the state. The land also provides other agricultural endeavors such as maple sugaring and fruit farming. The town also boasts several other thriving industries.
 
The east town line is the border of Vermont. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 145.4 square kilometers. 145.2 square kilometers of it is land and 0.1 square kilometers of it is water. In the town the population was spread out with 26.4 percent under the age of 18, 7.0 percent from 18 to 24, 26.5 percent from 25 to 44, 23.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 16.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.0 males.

Communities and locations in the Town of Granville are Granville, the village of Granville, Great Meadows Correctional Facility which is a New York state prison. Hillsdale, Middle Granville, North Granville, Raceville which is a hamlet in the northeast part of the town, Slyboro, South Granville, Truthville, Washington Correctional Facility which is also a New York State prison, West Granville and West Pawlet which is a community on the border of Vermont. Granville is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
