New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
 
Hastings-on-Hudson is a village in Westchester County in New York, United States. As a village, it is located in the southwest part of the town of Greenburgh. It is a suburb of New York City. The population was 7,702 at the 2005 census estimate. According to the United States census bureau, the village has a total area of 7.5 square kilometers of which 5.1 square kilometers is land and 2.5 square kilometers is water. Commuter rail service to New York city is available via the Hastings-on-Hudson train station, served by metro north railroad's Hudson line.
 
 The population was spread out with 25.0 percent under the age of 18, 4.1 percent from 18 to 24, 26.1 percent from 25 to 44, 29.3 percent from 45 to 64 and 15.5 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 91.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.9 males. The village has many attractions and places for recreation like Chemka pool which is a public swimming pool. It also has a large wooded area with hiking and biking trails known as Hillside Woods and Sugar pond which were open to ice skating in the winter.

The village has become a centre of industry, education, administration and culture. It offers a variety of retail stores for shoes, toys, stationery, and pizza. The village has undergone some improvements in recent times. Theatre productions and shows are hosted by the village. It became a popular destination for tourism and is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over.
