New York is a state in the north eastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York city, the state is often regionalized into upstate and downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
 
Goshen is a town in Orange county, New York, United States. The population was 12,913 at the 2000 census. The town of Goshen, which is centrally located contains a village also called Goshen. Settlement began around 1714. The town was established in 1789. The region was important in the development of harness racing. According to the United States census bureau, the town has a total area of 113.9 square kilometer. 113.6 square kilometer of it is land and 0.3 square kilometer of it is water.
 
As of the census of 2000, there were 12,913 people, 4,074 households, and 2,912 families residing in the town. The population density was 113.7 per square kilometer. There were 4,320 housing units at an average density of 38 per square kilometer. There were 4,074 households out of which 35.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2 percent were married couples living together, 8.1 percent had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.5 percent were non families. 24.4 percent of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9 percent had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

In the town the population was spread out with 24.4 percent under the age of 18, 7.2 percent from 18 to 24, 28.5 percent from 25 to 44, 23 percent from 45 to 64, and 16.9 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 100.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.9 males. About 2.7 percent of families and 4.5 percent of the population were below the poverty line. The town is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of New York, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over. The town has undergone some improvement in various fields and enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
