New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. The Town of Scarsdale, a municipality in Westchester County, is incorporated as the Village of Scarsdale with coterminous Town and Village boundaries. Scarsdale is located in the 18th Congressional, the 36th State Senatorial, the 88th State Assembly, and the 7th, 8th and 17th County Legislative districts. The population in 2005 U.S. Census was 17, 763. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 17.2 square kilometers. 17.2 square kilometers of it is land and 0.15 percent is water.
 
As of the census of 2000, there were 17,823 people, 5,662 households, and 4,993 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,036.4 per square kilometers. There were 5,795 housing units at an average density of 337.0 per square kilometers. The racial makeup of the village was 84.10 percent White, 1.52 percent Black or African American, 0.02 percent Native American, 12.58 Asian, 0.02 percent Pacific Islander, 0.40 percent from other races, and 1.37 percent from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.62 percent of the population.
 
In the village the population was spread out with 32.8 percent under the age of 18, 4.0 percent from 18 to 24, 22.8 percent from 25 to 44, 28.7 percent from 45 to 64, and 11.6 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.2 males. Scarsdale Post Office and postal zone are Beech Hill, Edgemont and many more.
