Schaghticoke is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, USA. The population was 7,456 in 2000 census. The town of Schaghticoke is on the northern border of the county, north of Troy, New York. The town contains a village, also called Schaghticoke.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 134.3 square kilometers. In the town the population was spread out with 26.3 percent under the age of 18, 6.5 percent from 18 to 24, 29.3 percent from 25 to 44, 25.5 percent from 45 to 64, and 12.5 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.3 males.
