Walden (V)




New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City; the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
 
Walden is a village located in the town of Montgomery in Orange County, New York. In 2000, the population of the city was 6,164 and an area of 5.3 square kilometers. The village is bisected by the Wallkill River. The area around Walden was purchased in 1736 by Alexander Kidd and settlers of Scots-Irish, English and German descent started arriving not long afterwards.  
 
In the village the population was spread out with 30.2 percent under the age of 18, 8.1 percent from 18 to 24, 31.5 percent from 25 to 44, 20.1 percent from 45 to 64, and 10.2 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.4 males.
