New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City; the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.

Watervliet is a municipality in Albany County, New York, United States. In 2000, the population of the city was 10,207 and an area of 3.9 square kilometers. The city of Watervliet is north of Albany, New York and is at the east border of the town of Colonial. Watervliet is on the west bank of the Hudson River. The town of Watervliet was founded in 1788.  
 
In the city the population was spread out with 23.7 percent under the age of 18, 9.6 percent from 18 to 24, 31.0 percent from 25 to 44, 19.7 percent from 45 to 64, and 16.0 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 88.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.6 males.
