New York is a state in the northeastern United States. West Haverstraw is a village in Rockland County, New York, United States. The population was 10,295 at the 2000 census. In 2005 population was 10,259. The Village of West Haverstraw is in the town of Haverstraw. According to the United States census bureau, the village has a total area of 4.0 square kilometers out of it 4.0 square kilometers is land area and 0.65 percent is water. In 2000, there were 10,295 people, 3,542 households, and 2,521 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,581.1 square kilometers.
 
In the village the population was spread out with 27.4 percent under the age of 18, 7.8 percent from 18 to 24, 32.2 percent from 25 to 44, 20.7 percent from 45 to 64, and 11.9 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.3 males.
