This aquatic environmental education center was founded in 1883. Today, it is a non-profit education center that is dedicated to educate every visitor about topics such as the freshwater ecosystems of New York through its education programs. Students from all parts of New York, scouts, groups with disabilities and senior citizens are among the visitors that attend the programs of the Hatchery.

The Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium has the largest living collection of freshwater reptiles, amphibians and fish in New York State. This collection is housed in eight outdoor ponds, in the Walter L. Ross II Aquarium and in the Julia F. Fairchild Building. The Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium also offers group education programs all year from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (you can attend these programs only by reservation).

In the self-guided tours of this Hatchery, you will visit the Walter L. Ross II Aquarium Building, the Hatch House & Rearing Pools, the Trout Ponds, the Round Ponds, the Tidal Raceway, the Warm Water Pond, the Turtle Pond, the Tidal Creek Observation Platform, the home of Tiny the Turtle and the Fairchild Exhibit Building.
