Batavia is a city in Genesee County, New York, USA. The population was 16,256 at the 2000 census 15,661. The name Batavia is the Latin name for part of the Netherlands. The city of Batavia is located near the middle of Genesee County and in the western part of the Town of Batavia. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.6 square kilometers.
 
The city of Batavia provides an ideal location for travelers that want to take advantage of all that western New York has to offer. It is less than an hour from Niagara Falls, Letchworth State Park and Lake Ontario and less than 30 minutes from the Genesee Country Museum, one of the largest outdoor living history museums in the country.
