Big Flats (T)

New York is a state in the northeastern United States. It is called New York State when there is need to distinguish it from New York City. Because a significant majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.

The town of Big Flats was organized in 1822 from the Town of Elmira. Big Flats is a town in Chemung County, New York, USA, New York. The population was 7,224 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 116.7 square kilometers. The area is a very popular shopping destination in the Southern tier, attracting people from over an hour away to the area. It is the only major shopping area until Ithaca and Binghamton, and often attracts a lot from Northern Pennsylvania where very little shoppings centers are available.

Like some of its sister towns, Big Flats is blessed with beautiful surroundings and a unique natural setting. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people all combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in New York.
