Canton, New York is a town and a village in the U.S. state of New York. Both are located in Saint Lawrence County, New York. Canton is a town in Saint Lawrence County, New York, USA. The population was 10,334 at the 2000 census. The Town of Canton also contains a village named Canton. The town was organized in 1805. The name Canton was supposedly selected due to contemporary interests in the China trade. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 274.3 square kilometers.
 
Like some of its sister towns, Canton is blessed with beautiful surroundings and a unique natural setting. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people all combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in New York.
