New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York city. The state is often regionalized into upstate and downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
 
Wallkill is a town in Orange County, New York in United States. According to the United States census bureau, the town has a total area of 162.5 square kilometers of which 161.0 square kilometers is land and 1.5 square kilometers is water. The population was 24,659 at the 2000 census. The town of Wallkill is centrally located in the county. It was established in 1772, but part of the town was lost upon the formation of Ulster County, New York. The current supervisor of the town is John Ward. John King, Eric Valentin, Kevin Mulqueen and James McCarey are the four councilmen of the town.
 
In the town the population was spread out with 26.2 percent under the age of 18, 7.6 percent from 18 to 24, 30.9 percent from 25 to 44, 24.4 percent from 45 to 64 and 10.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males. The town is home to many retail stores, shopping centers and restaurants. The Galleria which was opened in 1992 and Orange plaza are located in the town. It is home to the Wallkill golf club and the 18 hole town owned course opened in 1991 and was designed by landscape architect Steve Esposito.
