New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
 
Mamakating is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 11,002 at the 2000 census and it was increase to 11,497.  The Town of Mamataking is in the southeast part of the county. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 254.5 square kilometers. 248.4 square kilometers of it is land and 6.0 square kilometers of it is water.

The town was formed from part of a colonial district in 1788, before the creation of Sullivan County. Parts of the town were removed to form new towns. The name of the region was formerly Mamacottin. In the town the population was spread out with 26.9 percent under the age of 18, 6.9 percent  from 18 to 24, 30.4 percent  from 25 to 44, 24.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 10.9 percent who were 65 years of age or older. It can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
