New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
 
The Elma is a town in Erie County, New York, USA. The population was 11,304 at the 2000 census. The town is named after a type of tree. The Town of Elma is located in the north-central part of the county, east of Buffalo, New York. Because of its location, Elma likes to refer to itself as the heart of Erie County.
 
The region was first settled around 1827. The early residents included members of the Ebenezer Society. The town was established in 1857 from parts of the Towns of Aurora and Lancaster. Elma was the last town formed in the county. When the town was formed, a resident suggested it be named after a famous large American elm, then growing in the town.
 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 89.3 square kilometers, all land. In the town the population was spread out with 24.5 percent under the age of 18, 5.5 percent from 18 to 24, 26.1 percent from 25 to 44, 27.9 percent from 45 to 64, and 16.0 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 97.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.4 males.
 
It can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
