New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
North Salem is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 5,173 at the 2000 census. The town of North Salem is in the northeast part of the county. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 59.3 square kilometers. In the town the population was spread out with 26.2 percent under the age of 18, 4.4 percent from 18 to 24, 28.5 percent from 25 to 44, 27.0 percent from 45 to 64, and 13.9 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 91.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.4 males.
