New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
 
Parma is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. Parma is a country town with friendly people and a great town Park. It is located in Monroe County, they are convenient to Rochester, shopping along Ridge Road and recreational access to Lake Ontario. Within their borders is the village of Hilton with its shopping, churches and schools. Parma is a great place to live with both a rich history and a promising future. The population was 14,822 at the 2000 census.
 
According to the United States census bureau, the town has a total area of 111.2 square kilometers. 108.7 square kilometers of it is land and 2.5 square kilometers of it is water. The town of Parma was organized in 1808, named after Parma in Italy. In the town the population was spread out with 28.3 percent under the age of 18, 6.6 percent from 18 to 24, 30.2 percent from 25 to 44, 24.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 10.0 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.4 males
 
While legislation creating a new town named after Parma, Italy was passed on April 8, 1808, its wording called for its organization at the next board meeting. Since boards at that time had so little business to conduct, government officials met only once a year.
