New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City, the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
 
Perinton is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population of the town was 46,090 as of the 2000 census. The town of Perinton was organized in 1812 and named for a settler Glover Perrin. The village of Fairport, New York is within the town on the Erie Canal. The hamlet of Egypt is in Southeastern Perinton. Egypt Fire Department, Lolloypop Farm, and Egypt Park are major Egyptian landmarks.
 
Oliver Phelps and Nathaniel Gorham purchased 2.6 million acres of land in the wilderness of Western New York in 1788. From the 1850's to the 1950's, Perinton's history was primarily Fairport's history. The village was not only an active canal port, but also developed into a booming industrial town, echoing a trend that was occurring nationwide. As a result of the availability of cheap and easy transportation, which by the 1850's included the railroad as well as the canal, companies like the DeLand Chemical Company and the Cobb Preserving Company grew and thrived.
 
Geographically according to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 89.2 square kilometers, from which 88.4 square kilometers of its area is covered by land and 0.8 square kilometers is occupied by water. In the town the population was spread out with 26.7 percent under the age of 18, 5.0 percent from 18 to 24, 28.5 percent from 25 to 44, 28.1 percent from 45 to 64, and 11.6 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.2 males.
