The town of Schroeppel was formed in 1832 from the town of Volney. Volney is a town in Oswego County, New York, United States. The population was 6,094 in 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 111.9 square kilometers.

In the town the population was spread out with 28.1 percent under the age of 18, 7.2 percent from 18 to 24, 30.6 percent from 25 to 44, 23.9 percent from 45 to 64, and 10.1 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 99.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.
