New York is a state in the northeastern United States. Majority of the population is concentrated in the southern portion around New York City; the state is often regionalized into Upstate and Downstate. New York is the home of Ellis Island, where many immigrants in the early 20th century arrived in the United States.
 
Union is a municipality in Broome County, New York. In 2000, the population of the city was 56,298 and an area of 92.8 square kilometers. The name is derived from this location having served as a meeting for the Sullivan Expedition. The town of Union is in the south-central part of the county, west of Binghamton. The communities of Union form the western suburbs of Binghamton. The town of Union was established in 1791, while in Tioga County before the creation of Broome County. Union is on the north side of the Susquehanna River. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.8 males.
