Central Park: An Urban Gem

Central Park is located in Manhattan, New York City; it is bordered by Central Park North to the north, by Fifth Avenue to the east, by Columbus Circle and Central Park South to the south and by Central Park west to the west. This urban park was the first public park with landscape in the United States, it has 843 acres. It is one of the most famous city parks of the world; it has appeared or been mentioned in many television shows and movies. Central Park is an urban wonder, an oasis surrounded by concrete that has represented the landscape of New York for more than 150 years.

Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux were the ones that designed Central Park. The majority of the park may look natural but it is landscaped; it has extensive walking tracks, artificial lakes, a couple of ice-skating rinks, playgrounds for children, grassy areas used to practice sports and wildlife sanctuary. A 10 km road circles the park; this road is used by joggers, inline skaters and bicyclists when the traffic of automobiles is banned on the weekends and in the evenings after 7:00 p.m.

The famous Central Park Zoo and Wildlife Center and the Children’s Zoo are located in Central Park. This Zoo has over 130 species that range from Polar Bears to Leaf Cutter Ants. If you travel to New York, make sure you take the time needed to visit Central Park, a magical place full of splendor.
